Birth Trauma Counselling is a growing field, with as many as one in three women reporting a traumatic birth and / or a distressing event in pregnancy.
Postnatal Depression often occurs when there are complicating factors such as depression during their pregnancy, a traumatic birth experience, low social support, financial difficulties, more than one young child, domestic violence, relationship difficulties or physical health problems.
Women will frequently seek counselling as a way to find extra support as they navigate the challenges of motherhood and to resolve the distress of their birth experience. Counselling can provide effective strategies to help women to rise to the challenge of the growing family and repair the emotional damage done by traumatic events in pregnancy and birth, and overcome PND.
