What type of assessments do you offer?
Currently, we offer four types of assessment:
- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) assessment – For adults (18 years and over) and children (6-17 years old). We have different psychologists conducting ADHD assessments depending on the age of the client.
- Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) assessment using the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS2). Please note, the test can be administered from 12 months old onwards.
- Intelligence assessment using the Wechsler series of tests (age dependent)
- Non-Verbal Intelligence Test using the Universal Non-Verbal Intelligence Test (UNIT) – this test is best for non-verbal clients and clients who have hearing or speech impairments. This assessment is to be also suitable for clients with English as an additional language or dialect (EALD). The UNIT can be administered to clients between 5 to 21 years old.
What does an assessment involve?
An assessment consists of four stages:
- Intake session/s (up to three 1-hour sessions may be required)
- Assessment session (2 hours)
- Report writing –Clinicians time only (2 to 4 hours)
- Feedback session (1 hour)
You can read more about the stages here: visionpsychology.com/psychometric-testing-for-children/
What is the wait time for an assessment?
The average wait time to be booked for an intake session is approx. 2-3 months, however you should call to check the most current wait time. After your intake session, we will book your assessment session as soon as possible, depending on availability.
How much does an assessment cost?
An assessment will cost between $1,500 and $3,000.
The current approximate cost for each stage is:
- Intake session: $310 – $930
- Assessment session: $620
- Report writing: $620 – $1,240
- Feedback session $310
Exception for intelligence tests: When assessing for a learning disability, our psychologist may also need to conduct an achievement test. This would require an additional assessment session and more time for them to write their report, increasing the overall cost. They will advise you whether this may be necessary during your intake session.
What funding options are available to pay for an assessment?
We understand that cost can sometimes be a concern, so there are multiple funding options available to you:
- We offer flexible payment plans via HUMM Finance. These plans do not require a credit check or deposit and have zero interest over the repayment period. Conditions apply. You can read more about this here: visionpsychology.com/buy-now-pay-later/ OR ask our staff.
- If you are a NDIS participant, then you can use part of your funding for an assessment.
- It is possible to receive Medicare rebates for an ASD assessment, however, you must be referred to our psychologist by a pediatrician or psychiatrist. You can read more about this process here: visionpsychology.com/ados-assessment/
I live far away from your practice. Do I need to attend every session in person?
The intake and feedback sessions can be held over phone or video call (telehealth). The assessment session must be attended in person at our Loganholme practice, M1 Psychology.
Does my child need to attend?
Your child only needs to attend the assessment session. We encourage parents to attend the intake and feedback sessions alone.
I’m looking to get NDIS funding/support?
NDIS requires the diagnosis to be confirmed by a clinical psychologist, pediatrician or psychiatrist. We have a clinical psychologist in our clinic who can confirm the diagnosis if needed.
I have a mental health care plan; can I get rebates for my sessions?
Intake and feedback sessions are eligible for Medicare rebate under your mental health care plan. However, the testing sessions and report writing session are not eligible for rebate.
